ES128
ES 128 is an introduction to finite element methods for analysis of steady-state and transient problems in solid and structural mechanics. Modeling of problems and interpretation of numerical results are discussed. Assignments include analytical paper problems, implementation of simple MATLAB finite-element codes, and use of existing general-purpose programs (Abaqus). A final project addresses a significant problem arising in engineered systems.

Project
Each group was assigned a project topic and had to brainstorm, design, simulate design, and present on their findings.
Our goal was to use non-linear FE analysis to model the response of a two chamber actuator and find the design that provides the most sideways motion. To do this we experimented with varying different parameters beginning with the pressure and continuing on with the geometry.
